Pilgrim Journey

by Marnie Bligh

Mary lived a simple life
A long, long time ago.
She didn't look different
From anyone else you'd know.

Yet Mary was given a treasure
More precious by far then gold
The story of her treasure
In the bible book is told.

Mary travelled many a journey
On long and dusty roads.
Along the road to Bethlehem
She bore a heavy load.

The long, long journey to Egypt
Was made to escape a king,
But the most difficult journey
was a short and cruel thing.

She walked the path to Calvary
To see her treasure hung,
Yet amid the pain and misery
To love and hope she clung.

Mary and the others prayed
While huddled in a room.
They'd been told by the Magdalene
That he'd risen from the tomb.

Suddenly, like a rush of wind
A sound from heaven came.
Then there appeared on each of them,
A flickering tongue of flame.

Inspired, they pushed into the street -
A multitude of nations.
"Christ is risen, we believe"
They said to all creation.
