Parish Bulletin BoardFr Leo Saleeba commenced his new appointment as parish priest at St Margarets, East Geelong, on 20 January. Fr Leo grew up in Frankston, which probably explains his love of swimming. He played football at Frankston as a boy and was involved in the North Melbourne Football Club from the 1970s to the 1990s. Fr Leos last appointment was at the church of the Resurrection in Keysborough, where he spent 15 years. He was involved in many aspects of community life in the area, including an interfaith network, and was president of the local Rotary club. Ordained as a priest in 1963 at St Francis Xaviers, Frankston, Fr Leo was appointed as a full-time hospital chaplain and then spent four years as a curate at St Marys, Dandenong. He has also served at parishes in Collingwood, Bulleen and Kensington. Fr Leo is looking forward to the fresh challenges he will meet in his new parish, which has mass centres at both East Geelong and Newcomb. He was already become an active member of the Geelong Catholic Social Justice Committee. We welcome him to the Geelong deanery and wish him well.
In preparation for the Jubilee year, Nazareth Parish is offering an opportunity for Catholics to revitalise their faith through a guide reading course. For details contact Sr Tricia or Lyn on 5243 9891.
The parish of Queenscliff will celebrate its centenary this coming October. The Queenscliff parish comprises the people and churches of Our Lady Star of the Sea at Ocean Grove, Holy Family at Barwon Heads, and Holy Trinity at Queenscliff. To mark the centenary of the parish the publication of a parish history booklet is planned, as well as a display of historic photographs and other memorabilia relating to the parish. Relatively little in the way of photographic and printed records is held in relation to the Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads sections of the parish. The parish would like to appeal to readers of Deanery Digest to make available any such material they may have that is suitable for reproduction in the booklet and/or for use in the historical display. Those able to assist are asked to contact Paul Larkins on 5256 1718. See elsewhere in this edition of Deanery Digest for a history of the Queenscliff parish. |
