Young Adults Forum LaunchedA group of young adults from a variety of parishes in the deanery met at St Marys Church on Friday, 7 May. The purpose of the gathering was to thrash out ideas and brainstorm various aspects of issues relating to church life and spiritual growth that are of most concern to the younger generation in our church today. About a dozen people took part. Many topics were brought forward, ranging from contemporary issues, such as the roles of women in the church, to traditional matters, like the Ten Commandments. It was unanimously decided to gather on the first Friday of each month for an open dialogue regarding issues that had been raised. The first young adults forum will be held on Friday, 4 June, from 7.00 to 8.30pm at the Sodality Room, St Marys Church, Geelong (please use rear the entrance via Little Myer St). The first topic to be discussed will be The infallibility of the Pope and how far can the Church change? This will be an open forum, but a brief introduction and research will be prepared by one of the participants beforehand and others will be invited to comment on and discuss the topic. We aim to accommodate views from all angles of life and the dialogue will be conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Coffee and tea will be available. Fr Mick Fitzpatrick, Parish Priest of Sts Peter and Paul, West Geelong, is our spiritual director. We are looking forward to his guidance. The forum is open to all ages and all spiritual backgrounds. In the long term, we hope it will not only serve as an avenue where the needs, doubts and challenges of the younger members of the church can be meet, but also provide an opportunity for social interaction as well. In doing so, we hope to fully support and nourish each other on this shared pilgrimage of ours. For further details contact Kevin on 0413 330 324. Peter Chiang |
