Fr Colin Bourke Leaves NorlaneAfter six and a half years of work as Parish Priest of Norlane, Fr Colin Bourke has left the parish to pursue studies in the United States. Fr Colin said that he will remember the people of Norlane with great affection, particularly their warmth and generosity. Commenting on his memories of the parish, Fr Colin emphasised the positive characteristics of parishioners, their acceptance and openness to other people and their easy to get to know qualities. A continuing emphasis on activities and programs that unite the community was seen by Fr Colin as the major challenge for the parish in the future. Speaking of their desire to remain as an identifiable group in the future, Fr Colin spoke of the importance of small group activities that bonded the community together. Fr Colin is undertaking a Spiritual Directors Course at the Institute of Spiritual Leadership in Chicago over a nine-month period. The Geelong Deanery thanks and congratulates Fr Colin on his outstanding commitment and pastoral leadership in Norlane and wishes him every blessing as he undertakes his course of study. The new Parish Priest of Norlane is a Paulist Priest, Phillip Gambin. Fr Gambin joins the parish and Geelong Deanery following extensive experience as a priest working in Sydney and Wales. (See Deanery Digest, December 1999, for further information about Fr Gambin.) |
