Deanery Profile: Mary Brady

Mary Brady was born and bred in the sheep raising country of Ararat, Victoria. The first child in a family of four, Mary received both her primary and secondary education with the Brigidine sisters in her hometown. On leaving school Mary trained as a primary school teacher and spent her early years as a teacher in St Anthony’s, Hamlyn Heights.

Mary decided to join the Brigidine sisters and has since played an active role in Brigidine primary schools in both teaching and administrative capacities. It was during Mary’s time as principal of Our Lady’s, Manifold, that she realised the importance of working with adults in faith development, encouraging them to use their giftedness in ministering to each other and the wider community. From the late 1980s, Mary worked as a pastoral associate at St Peter’s, East Bentleigh, and for the last five years at St Kevin’s, Hampton Park.

Mary is experienced in developing meaningful liturgies and has put to good use her musical talents in enhancing the celebrations.

In 1999 Mary joined the parish team at Corio/Lara and is presently employed as the community leader of Corio on a part-time basis. For the remainder of the week Mary returns to Ararat and helps care for her sick and elderly mother.
