The Young Vincentians
The Young Vincentians is a group of young people in Geelong who believe in the call to reach out to those who are disadvantaged in our society. Our group members are aged between 18 and 35, but we are flexible regarding this. Our group is mainly involved with children from disadvantaged families in Geelong. We organise various excursions for these children once every 2 months to places such as the Zoo, Luna Park, the cinema and McDonalds. On the alternate month we have a family day where the kids and their families come along and we have a BBQ or picnic lunch. We also try to visit the families regularly in their homes. We are also involved with a soup van in Footscray that travels around to various boarding houses and parks and provides soup and sandwiches to people in need. We aim to be self-sufficient, so we occasionally do some fundraising, often having a cake stall or car wash. We try to have regular get togethers with other group members, going out for dinner or to see a movie. Working with the kids is really rewarding but occasionally a bit draining, so its always great for us to get together and have some fun with each other. If anyone would like some more information you can phone myself on 5278 2151 or Willy Van Leeuwen on 5281 7294. We would be happy to assist you. New members would be welcomed with open arms.
