Theresians - Women in Support of Women
Theresians is a Catholic organisation for Christian women that was founded in 1961 in Pueblo, Colorado. Having an organisation that provides enrichment for them, Theresian women find a network of support that encourages them to explore the depths of their spirituality as women, and how that spirituality prompts them to respond to one another as women and to all those others in their individual daily lives. Through Theresian membership many women have come to own a new perception and vision of themselves as women first and then as women of Church and society. Theresians provide a sacred space where Christian women can give one another courage to meet the challenges, ups and downs of life; where women actually name and call forth one another's gifts for the benefit of building up the kingdom; where women can come to recognise, name and own their power to affect change toward gospel-valued lives. The Theresians are supportive of women. We provide a prayerful environment in which we are nurtured, affirmed and challenged to reach our full potential. Theresians are women who follow God's call to them as single, married, divorced, widowed or religious women. Women of other Christian faiths are welcome. The above is taken from the Theresian mission statement, mostly because it says much better than I could what being Theresians really means. We try to live according to five dimensions:
We have been meeting as a small group in Geelong for a year and are now taking the opportunity after Lenten renewal and Easter joy to offer Geelong women the opportunity to join us in becoming all that we can be. We meet monthly on a Monday night from 7.30 to 9.30 in a members home. Women who would like to come to a meeting or an information night can ring Maureen on 5278 8063. We are women in support of women, reaching out with gospel values. |
