Visiting the Bereaved

Do you struggle with visiting someone who has recently lost a person they love? Perhaps you avoid them because you just don’t know what to say. Would you like to be involved in the ministry of visiting the bereaved or are already involved in this ministry and need to improve your skill level?

If so, the Deanery is running a 3-week course called ‘Visiting the Bereaved’ on the first three Monday nights in May (1, 8 and 15).

The facilitator is Mrs Joy Earle-Quick, a counsellor/family therapist at the Life Enrichment Centre. Joy is a well-known and respected public speaker throughout Geelong and its surrounds and she aims to equip participants with an understanding of normal grief, to enable them to know how to care and what to say in their important visitation of parishioners who have recently been bereaved.

Included in the course is an understanding of the grief process, common feelings and emotions, ways of thinking and behaving, and having an understanding of our own discomfort levels that lead to awkwardness.

Limited places are available in the course, so if you wish to come please ring Denise asap on 5229 0926. The cost is $10 for 3 nights.
